Food bank dishes out big for the new holiday season

This year, the food bank in Tombstone plans to hand out 80 boxes. On a regular day the food bank serves about 30 people, which triples their August numbers.

The Tombstone Community Food Bank continues to distribute holiday food boxes despite the lack in donations in the greater Tucson area.

 

Fire destroys house in St. David

A residence in St. David was considered at total loss after flames engulfed the house Monday, according to a news release.

Fire crews arrived at the residence on N. Sibyl Road and were able to extinguish the flames after several hours. The total damage was estimated at $80,000.

County Supes OK J6-area development despite opposition

The 278 home development will be located at the base of the Whetstone Mountains. The vote that passed on Tuesday will allow the developers to double the amount of homes from one house per four acres, to one house per two acres.

Despite a myriad of objections from the public, as well as arguments from the Arizona Department of Game and Fish and the U.S. Forest Service, Easter Mountain Ranch LLC will be coming to J-6 Ranch.

Suspected drug tunnel found inside Douglas house

A suspected drug tunnel was found in Douglas Wednesday, ICE spokesman Vincent Picard said.

A citizen reported the tunnel to the Douglas Police Department. Officers arrived at the house as the suspected smugglers were in the process of re-excavating the collapsed tunnel.

Pair of Benson businesses share new site

Benson Autobody and S&D Towing share the property. The towing company has also expanded to be a full-service garage. The property has become a one-stop-shop for many customers in the area.

After sitting empty for three years, one of Benson's largest commercial properties is now occupied by two businesses.

Authorities discover explosives inside Tombstone mobile home

A search for explosives brought several law enforcement agencies to Tombstone overnight.

A bomb technican from the Cochise County Sheriff's Office met with the Tombstone Marshal, who had received information that some local residents were cleaning out a dead family member's home along Allen Street when they found some suspicious items, according to the Carol Capas of the Cochise County Sheriff's office.

West Turkey Creek cabin owners return

If you have not yet requested permission to assess the damage of your property in West Turkey Creek, you should contact the District Ranger in Douglas to receive your special use permit.

The Forest Service has given some of the cabin owners written permission to visit their West Turkey Creek Cabins to assess damage to their property. Although some cabins were lost to the fire, many survived and are now in need of some cleanup and hazard tree removal in some cases.
