Repairs at Texas Canyon rest area to begin July 16

Repair work on the Texas Canyon rest area, originally scheduled to start on July 9, has been rescheduled for July 16.  ADOT anticipates the closure to last for five weeks.

The Arizona Department of Transportation will be repairing worn concrete in the parking area, and is part of a $4.2 million project to resurface westbound I-10 between the Johnson Road traffic interchange (exit 322) and the east side of Benson.  This second, bigger project should be completed by December 2012.

During the closure of the Texas Canyon rest area, motorists are advised to use the facilities in Willcox or Benson.  The nearest highway rest area east of Texas Canyon is near Exit 389 (San Simon), while the nearest rest area west is located near Sacaton, (just west of Casa Grande).

ADOT is also advising drivers to proceed through the work area with caution, to slow down and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
