Dog Park re-named after Tucson Police K-9 Ivan

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now)- A local police dog was honored for his service and sacrifice on Saturday, during the re-naming of a dog park, on the East side.

Police K-9 Ivan was shot and killed on December 12, 2012 while assisting TPD officers with an arrest of an armed carjacking suspect, who was on the run from police.

Dozens of police officers and community supporters gathered at Purple Heart Park off Rita Road this morning, for a special re-naming ceremony for the dog park.  It will now be known as "Ivan's Spot."

Tucson Police officer William Bonanno presented K-9 Ivan's handler with a special bracelet created by an officer in New Jersey who was honoring Ivan's sacrifice across the country.

Tucson police officers were very touched by that gesture.
