Cochise County detention officer arrested

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now)- A detention officer with the Cochise County Sheriff's Office was arrested today and charged with drug offenses.

According to a news release from the Sheriff's Office, the arrest of Mario Serrano by the Drug Enforcement Administration was the result of a joint investigation, which is ongoing.

Serrano joined the Sheriff's Office in Dec. 2001. He has resigned his position, according to the release.

Sierra Vista shoplifting suspect arrested on drug charges

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Sierra Vista Police Department responded to a call of a shoplifter at a local Kmart and ended up arresting the suspect on drug charges.

According to the Sierra Vista Police Department, Christopher John Darr, 27, tried to avoid officers when they arrived at the scene in the 2000 block of E. Fry Boulevard on May 31.

During the chase, officers noticed Darr threw an object into some bushes, which appeared to be a gun. Upon further investigation, a gun was found and Darr was arrested.

Following the arrest, officers searched Darr's person and discovered drug paraphernalia and marijuana. Darr was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm in the commission of a drug offense, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and shoplifting.
