Douglas man charged after two sisters rescued from his trailer

DOUGLAS, AZ (Tucson News Now)- A Douglas man
is facing federal charges after allegedly holding two women against their will according to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland
Security Investigations (HSI) news release.

The ICE/HSI
release stated that a Douglas man, identified as Alejandro Beltran, is facing
federal charges after two sisters from Guatemala allege he held them hostage,
beat them and attempted to extort money from their families.

Beltran appeared
in federal court on May 20 where he was charged with harboring aliens for the
purpose of private financial gain, according to ICE officials.

According to the criminal
complaint, the Douglas Police Department received a call late Sunday afternoon
from a person reporting that two adult undocumented Guatemalan sisters were
being held against their will in north Douglas near Washington Street.

Horne is OK with new Bisbee civil unions measure

BISBEE, Ariz. (AP) - A spokeswoman says Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne won't sue Bisbee to try to block final approval of the southern Arizona city's revised ordinance on civil unions.

Horne spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham says Horne thinks the revised ordinance is "fine," believing it addresses his concerns.

The Bisbee City Council voted 5-2 Tuesday night to formally propose a scaled-back version of the ordinance.

That sets the stage for a June 4 vote by the council on whether to approve the measure.

Bisbee officials rewrote an earlier version after Horne threatened to sue over provisions that Horne said were in conflict with state law or went beyond the city's authority.

Monday afternoon around 3 p.m., Fort Huachuca firefighters responded to a brush fire.

The fire started near  the water retention basin close to Site Boston (located between the Main Gate and Arizona Veterans Cemetery).  Fry Fire Department assisted post firefighters and helped ‘mop up’ the scene after.

The fire appears to have started when a grass mower blade sparked after it hit a rock.  About 2.5 acres were burned due to this fire, however no structures were damaged and no personnel injured.
